Nikki Sixx’s Band Sixx:AM Unveils New Vinyl Release

The hard rock trio made an exciting announcement via social media on Wednesday, generating loads of chatter from loyal fans. Slated for a June 6th release, the 3 LP set will come in a Limited Edition Smoke colour and will be available on all streaming services.

SIXX:AM drew its name from its talented members: Nikki Sixx from Mötley Crüe, D.J. Ashba of Guns N’ Roses and Bulletboys fame, and renowned producer James Michael. The group’s inception as a musical project was sparked by the release of Nikki Sixx’s gripping New York Times Bestselling memoir, “The Heroin Diaries,” in 2007, which featured its own soundtrack. The overwhelming success of this venture propelled the band forward inspiring them to create more for their quickly adoring fan base, resulting in the release of several more albums: “This Is Gonna Hurt” in 2011, “Modern Vintage” in 2014, and the two-part series “Prayers of the Damned” and “Prayers of the Blessed” in 2016. After nearly a decade of anticipation, fans were thrilled to discover the combined Deluxe edition of their last albums, complete with fresh piano renditions of “Maybe It’s Time” and “Prayers of the Damned,” alongside an alternative remix of the powerful anthem “We Will Not Go Quietly.”

But with this new announcement, the dog-aged question rears its sleepy head: “Is there any new material coming out?” One commenter on the announcement post suggested that since James Michael had left the music business altogether, there was little hope for new material. DJ Ashba in an interview in 2022 with Antihero Magazine, gave credit to this suggestion saying: “James has mentioned recently that he’s kind of retiring, kind of stepping away from music, which is sad to hear, but the guy has done so many great, great things in his career and the songs he has been a part of.” And with James Michael not posting on social media anymore, it definitely gives the vibe of a quiet life rather than one of rock n roll debauchery.

Meanwhile, a die-hard Motley Crue fan commented, “Seriously, Nikki… it’s time to focus on this project and give Crue a rest.” With a lot of turmoil surrounding Motley Crue at the moment, including cancelled shows, is it such a bad idea for Nikki to concentrate on SixxAM for a while? Nikki still lends his hand to the notion that Sixx:AM is alive and well with a tweet this morning, raising questions about the future and harking back to the good old days of #sixxamquestions.

The band has over 1.1 million followers worldwide on Spotify with over 500 million streams, and this announcement has fans excited and hopeful for the future, living on the hope and a prayer that the band will tour again someday. This Limited Edition EP is a must for die-hard vinyl collectors and marks the first work by the guys in years to be released on vinyl.

Will you add this to your collection? What are your thoughts on Nikki concentrating on Sixx:AM? If James Michael has retired, should they find a new singer? I’m eager to hear your thoughts!
